Undercrown exists because Drew Estate's rollers wanted something for themselves. Barred from smoking the Liga Privada they were producing — every leaf was spoken for — the torcedores in Esteli began blending their own cigar from tobaccos on hand. Management found out, tasted it, and put it into production. Undercrown Maduro is the result, and it remains one of the best-value cigars in the premium market.

The Blend

The wrapper is a Mexican San Andres Otapan Negro Ultimo Corte, laid over a Connecticut River Valley stalk-cut and cured Habano binder, with Brazilian Mata Fina and Nicaraguan filler tobaccos underneath. It is a genuinely complex recipe — four countries in one cigar — and it delivers a dark, sweet, full-flavored smoke that reads far more expensive than it costs.
